A Dialogue on Racial/Ethnic Equity and Policy | November 22

Join the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine for a day-long dialogue based on a recent 2019 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine consensus report, A Roadmap to Reducing Child Poverty. This engaging conference and dialogue will feature presenters including Greg Duncan, Dolores Acevedo-Garcia, Eldar Shafir, Tom Shapiro, Naomi Zewde, Anne Price, Pam Joshi, Marla McDaniel, Zach Parolin, Tim Smeeding, and Mark Greenberg.

Topics to be examined include:

  • An Overview of A Roadmap to Reducing Child Poverty
  • Racial and Ethnic Inequities in Family Income Stability: Structural Factors and Program and Policy Solutions including the racial wealth gap, baby bonds, and an initiative on closing the racial wealth gap
  • Addressing Racial/Ethnic Equity in Anti-poverty Policy, including reducing barriers to access, take up and retention, and TANF and the Black-White child poverty gap
  • Improving the Effectiveness of Anti-poverty Programs for Children in Immigrant Families, including expanding inclusion of children in immigrant families in anti-poverty programs, the public charge rule, and federal and state policy approaches for improving immigrant eligibility and access
