About Us

The Insight Center for Community Economic Development (Insight Center), originally established as the National Economic Development and Law Center (NEDLC) in 1969, was founded to provide essential legal and program support to low-income communities as part of President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty initiative. Over the past 55 years, our work has contributed to the creation, growth, and sustainability of more than 500 community-based development organizations across the country. We have remained at the forefront of developing and implementing innovative solutions that not only help individuals escape poverty but also empower them to build long-term economic stability and prosperity for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The Insight Center fosters comprehensive planning partnerships to develop strategies that enhance economic outcomes for families, businesses, communities, workers, and other stakeholders. This approach considers where investments are made and how they interact with existing resources, policies, and programs, ensuring alignment with the efforts of other organizations. By addressing interconnected challenges and opportunities, we help integrate public and private resources strategically, directing them toward individuals based on their unique needs.
